An Introduction To Spring Toggles (Video)
In the video below, we discuss our spring toggles explaining how they are used and discussing material and specification details.
What is a Spring Toggle?
Spring Toggles are cavity fixings that can be used to fasten fixtures to items where the fastening goes through the back of the substrate, like hollow panels, cavity walls, and ceilings. They’re made of metal and have spring loaded wings. These wings open up to hold the fitting in place after being fastened.
Because the wings spread the load over a wide area, Spring Toggles are particularly effective when used for overhead installations.
How do I install a Spring Toggle?
You can use the following method to install your Spring Toggle:
- Drill a hole large enough for both the screw and the toggle to penetrate.
- Attach the screw through your fixture and into the wings of the Spring Toggle.
- Push the toggle through the hole – once the toggle is all the way through the hole, the wings will spring open.
- Gently pull the fixture towards you until you can feel resistance.
- Tighten the screw and you’re done!
It’s important to remember that if you need to remove the screw for any reason, the wings will fall into the cavity – Spring Toggles are not reusable! Because of this, you should always make sure you attach the screw through the fixture and into the wings before you fit the toggle through the hole.
Our Spring Toggles are available in diameters from 5mm to 6mm, and in lengths from 50mm to 75mm. They are made using Bright Zinc Plated Steel and feature a Clear Passivation finish. We supply our Spring Toggles with pan head pozidrive screws for quick and easy installation, but any other screw with the same thread size as the supplied screw can also be used.
