An Introduction To Concrete Screws (Video)

In the video below, we discuss concrete screws; explaining how they are used and detailing the finish and sizes available.

What is a Concrete Screw?

Concrete screws can be used when fixing into many types of heavy-duty material, such as concrete, brick, blockwork, stone, and timber. They’re designed to replace standard masonry fixings that require a plug – concrete screws can be quickly and easily installed without a plug.

Concrete screws are most often used when installing window or door frames.

Why use a Concrete Screw?

There are a few handy features of concrete screws that make them more suitable for use than standard masonry fixings. These include:

  • A T30 Torx drive recess on the head – this reduces the chance of the drill bit slipping when you install the screw
  • Locking ribs on the head – these help to prevent the head from rotating after being fastened
  • Serrations on the thread – this helps the screw tap its thread into the material
  • High-low thread on the point – this increases the installation speed

Concrete Screws are designed to withstand higher loads than traditional screws & plugs. They can even be installed at the edge of heavy-duty materials like concrete or stone without risking deformation to the material. Concrete Screws also have the advantage of being fully adjustable and reusable (in most cases).

How do I install a Concrete Screw?

The installation process for a concrete screw is simple:

  1. Drill your hole – make sure you drill a hole that is slightly deeper than the length of the screw. This allows for any build-up of dust or debris after you’ve fastened the screw. Note: our Concrete Screws are available in 7.5mm diameter, so make sure to use a 6mm drill.
  2. Blow out any debris – some dust may collect after you’ve tightened the screw, but it’s best to get rid of any dust that remains after drilling to ensure a tight fastening.
  3. Fasten your Concrete Screw – it’s as easy as that!

Our Concrete Screws range in length from 50mm to 200mm. They're made from Bright Zinc Plated Steel and feature a Yellow Passivation finish, as well as a countersunk head for flush installation.
